Miguel de Unamuno y Jugo fue un escritor y filósofo español de la generación del 98. Cultivó una gran variedad de géneros literarios como novela, ensayo, teatro y poesía. Fue, asimismo, diputado y rector de la Universidad de Salamanca. Para Unamuno el arte era un medio de expresar las inquietudes del espíritu. "Poesías" fue su primera obra en este género literario.
