Der Struwwelpeter

Der Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann
By: (1809-1894)

Der Struwwelpeter is a classic children's book written by Heinrich Hoffmann that tells cautionary tales through a series of short stories. Each story features a child who disobeys or misbehaves in some way, and suffers the consequences as a result. The book is filled with dark humor and whimsical illustrations that add to the overall charm of the stories.

One of the most famous stories in the book is about a boy named Conrad who refuses to eat his soup and eventually starves to death. Another story features a girl named Harriet who plays with matches and sets herself on fire. These tales may be gruesome and shocking to modern readers, but they serve as a reminder of the importance of obeying rules and behaving properly.

Overall, Der Struwwelpeter is a fascinating and thought-provoking book that has stood the test of time. It offers a unique and entertaining way to teach children valuable lessons about the consequences of their actions. While some may find the stories to be harsh or disturbing, they ultimately help to reinforce the importance of good behavior and following rules.

Book Description:
