Il etait fils d'un tisserand. Vers l'age de quinze ans[2], il alla chercher fortune aux colonies et passa vingt et une annees a Saint Domingue. Il dit y avoir servi pendant seize ans dans les dragons des milices bourgeoises. Il y fonda une guildiverie, ou fabrique de tafia, qui, dit il, prospera; mais, elle fut detruite par un incendie que Fournier attribua a la malveillance de ses voisins. Ruine, il revint en France pour demander justice et harcela les ministres de ses placets. En 1785, il obtint du ministre de la marine une pension de 500 livres par mois, mais elle ne lui fut jamais payee.
