By: (1808 - c. 1864-18)

I recently finished reading an incredibly powerful memoir called Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup. This book is a firsthand account of Northup's harrowing experience of being kidnapped and sold into slavery in the United States.

Throughout the book, Northup vividly describes the physical and emotional abuse he endured during his time as a slave. From being separated from his family to witnessing the brutal treatment of his fellow slaves, his story is at times difficult to read but always important to acknowledge.

What struck me the most about Twelve Years a Slave is Northup's unwavering resilience and determination to survive. Despite facing unimaginable hardships, he never loses hope or gives up on the belief that he will one day be free.

Overall, I highly recommend reading Twelve Years a Slave. It is a heartbreaking yet essential read that sheds light on the dark history of slavery in America and serves as a reminder of the enduring strength of the human spirit.
