Today he is most famous for his sonnets, many of which focus on the superior charms of his innamorata, Laura.
John Nott was English physician and classical scholar. In addition to some original works and anthologies of poetry by earlier English authors, he also published translations of classic Latin and Italian texts. Among the latter is this collection of poetry of Petrarch, comprising seventy sonnets and ten odes, which first appeared in 1777.
This is a bilingual recording. Each poem will be read first in the original Italian, and then in English translation.
