Kun isäni monta vuotta sitte siirrettiin tänne kaupunkiin, tuli minun osakseni vanhimpana tyttärenä seurata häntä asettamaan uutta kotiamme kuntoon, sill'aikaa kun äiti ja lapset vielä asuskelivat entisessä.

Isä, jolla oli yhtä rajaton kuin ansaitsematon luottamus kelvollisuuteeni, jätti kaikki minun toimitettavakseni, ja siinä sitte seisoin eräänä aamuna epätietoisena ja avuttomana suuressa asunnossa keskellä mattoja, heinäsiteitä ja puoleksi peitteistään esiin otettuja huonekaluja.
