The Hunchback of Notre Dame |

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a tragic tale filled with complex characters and moral dilemmas. The story follows Quasimodo, a hunchbacked bell ringer who is treated as an outcast by society. Despite this, he is kind-hearted and loyal, forming a close bond with the beautiful Esmeralda.
Victor Hugo's writing is rich in detail, painting a vivid picture of medieval Paris and the grand Notre Dame cathedral. The novel explores themes of love, acceptance, and the consequences of prejudice. The characters are multi-dimensional and the plot is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader engaged.
However, the pacing of the novel can be slow at times, with lengthy descriptions and historical asides that may not appeal to all readers. The dark and somber tone of the story may also be off-putting to some.
Overall, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a classic work of literature that explores timeless themes with depth and complexity. It is a thought-provoking read that will stay with you long after you finish the final page. Book Description: |

Reviewer: Micah - July 6, 2018 Subject: A masterpiece of French literature This book is a masterpiece. It’s ability to describe middle-ages Paris, it’s enthralling and tragic plot, and it’s unforgivable and unforgettable characters make it one of the best books I’ve read (or listened to.) Having never read any of Hugo’s literary works, I found it a great help to have the audio version of this book to be able to continue through the longer chapters and be able to hear the correct French pronunciations. Being a tragedy, I found this book very enjoyable. Hugo fills the dialogue and plot with irony and wit and makes sure that the reader understands the full context of the architecture, the history, and the political climate in that time. The reader of this audiobook is phenomenal. His voice is clear and pleasant to listen to, he give life and unique voices to each character, and (as far as I can tell) his French pronunciation is on point. Very high quality. |
