Não tencionava publicar este livro. A dôr que ele contem, muito embora arrefecida ao tomar expressão verbal, é sagrada para mim.

Estes versos, nascidos da morte d'uma creança bem amada, fôram escriptos para seus Paes e Avós, para as pessoas que a rodearam de carinhos durante a sua doença e para os meus intimos amigos de alma.

O soffrimento verdadeiro não ama a luz do mundo. Quem chora, esconde o rôsto. A dôr oculta se por conhecer a desharmonia de que é feita.

Mas quando soube da subscripção nacional aberta a favor do divino Poeta da "Historia de Jesus" para as creancinhas lerem , resolvi pôr á venda este livro, com o fim de inscrever o seu producto, ainda que modesto, na subscripção referida.
