Education as Service by J. Krishnamurti is a thought-provoking and enlightening read that challenges our conventional notions of education. Known for his profound insights and philosophical teachings, Krishnamurti ventures into the realm of education in this book to shed light on a vital but often overlooked aspect of learning.
Drawing upon his own experiences as a teacher and his understanding of human psychology, the author emphasizes the significance of education as a means of serving others. He contends that education should not merely be instrumental in preparing individuals for the workforce or society, but it should also nurture a sense of compassion, responsibility, and a genuine desire to contribute to the well-being of others.
Krishnamurti delves deeply into the purpose of education, questioning the prevalent emphasis on grades, competition, and the pursuit of success. He argues that true education goes beyond the acquisition of knowledge and seeks to cultivate an integrated human being who not only excels academically but is also compassionate, empathetic, and capable of deep self-reflection.
In this book, Krishnamurti challenges the traditional teacher-student dynamic, advocating for a more dynamic and holistic approach to education. He proposes that the role of a teacher is not to mold or indoctrinate students but rather to guide them towards self-discovery, critical thinking, and a genuine understanding of the world around them.
One of the noteworthy aspects of Education as Service is the author's ability to articulate profound ideas in a simple and accessible manner. Krishnamurti's writing style is engaging, captivating, and thought-provoking, making the book an engaging read for educators, parents, and anyone interested in the purpose and impact of education.
While the book primarily focuses on education, it offers valuable insights into broader aspects of human existence. Through his exploration of education as service, Krishnamurti prompts readers to reflect on their own values, motivations, and the impact they can have on the world.
In conclusion, Education as Service is a compelling book that challenges our conventional understanding of education. J. Krishnamurti's philosophical reflections and practical insights make it a must-read for anyone interested in the purpose, value, and transformational potential of education. BY J. This is, in truth, the old Hindu ideal, exaggerated as it may seem to be to day and if it be possible, in any country to rebuild this ideal, it should be by an Indian for Indians...
