Through a series of letters to Castilho, Quental delves into the complexities of aesthetics and the roles they play in society.

Quental's writing is eloquent and persuasive, making a strong case for the cultivation of good sense and good taste in all aspects of life. He argues that these qualities not only enhance our appreciation of art and literature, but also contribute to our overall well-being and moral development.
