“非所計也”

  新年第一回的《申報》(一月七日)〔2〕用“要電”告訴我們:“聞陳(外交總長印友仁)〔3〕与芳澤〔4〕友誼甚深,外交界觀察,芳澤回國任日外長,東省交涉可望以陳之私人感情,得一較好之解決云。”

  中國的外交界看慣了在中國什么都是“私人感情”,這樣的“觀察”,原也無足怪的。但從這一個“觀察”中,又可以“觀察”出“私人感情”在政府里之重要。

  然而同日的《申報》上,又用“要電”告訴了我們:“錦州三日失守,連山綏中續告陷落,日陸戰隊到山海關在車站懸日旗……”

  而同日的《申報》上,又用“要聞”告訴我們“陳友仁對東省問題宣言”云:“……前日已命令張學良〔5〕固守錦州,積极抵抗,今后仍堅持此旨,決不稍變,即不幸而挫敗,非所計也。……”

  然則“友誼”和“私人感情”,好象也如“國聯”〔6〕以及“公理”,“正義”之類一樣的無效,“暴日”似乎不象中國,專講這些的,這真只得“不幸而挫敗,非所計也”了。也許愛國志士,又要上京請愿了罷。當然,“愛國熱忱”,是“殊堪嘉許”的... Continue reading book >>
