Ιφιγένεια εν Ταύροις Δράμα σε πράξεις πέντε   By: (1749-1832)

Book cover

Ι was captivated by this Greek tragedy by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The story of Iphigenia's sacrifice and her time in exile at the temple of Artemis in Taurus is both heartbreaking and thought-provoking. Goethe's writing is powerful and emotive, drawing the reader into the depths of Iphigenia's despair and eventual acceptance of her fate. The character development is superb, with each character wrestling with their own internal conflicts and desires.

The themes of duty, sacrifice, and redemption are explored in a profound and moving way. The play is filled with tense moments, poignant revelations, and ultimately a sense of catharsis. Iphigenia's journey is one of self-discovery and transformation, and her strength and resilience are truly inspiring.

Overall, I highly recommend this play to anyone interested in Greek mythology, tragic dramas, or just excellent storytelling in general. Goethe's adaptation of the classic tale is a masterpiece that will linger in your thoughts long after you've turned the final page.
